Suzzy, a young woman who had battled illness before her death, was laid to rest in a ceremony that was captured on camera and later shared online.
What stopped viewers in their tracks was not the funeral itself, but a quiet, aching act performed by her mother at the graveside.
A Mother's Final Gift to Her Daughter
Standing over the grave, which already held Suzzy's coffin, the bereaved woman pulled out her daughter's dresses, shoes and handbags and lowered them in one by one.
"Let me give you what you loved the most, your dresses, your shoes, everything you liked carry them and go," she said, her voice carrying the full weight of a mother's loss. "Wherever you are use them, the things you love so much, farewell my daughter rest well."
Once the items were inside, she raised both hands high above the grave, as though offering a final farewell before stepping aside to allow the soil to be filled in.
The sound of mourners weeping could be heard throughout the moment.
Social Media Divided Over the Gesture
The footage spread quickly online, and while many viewers were moved by the mother's raw grief, the gesture itself sparked a range of reactions.
Samuel Lash wrote:
"But why should you bury her with her cloth? have never seen these before."
Mbuh offered a different perspective, saying:
"That woman is doing that out of grief. the daughter must have been someone who valued materialistic things and mami had warned her definitely she doesn't want to turn around and see them in her house."
Single commented:
"My mom will not bury me i will not bury my children in jesus name amen."
Deenjourney26 raised a practical concern:
"Why not distribute to the needy? By doing that, someone in need of something to cover the skin will use them."
For the mother, the act appeared less about custom and more about connection, one last way of sending her daughter off with the things that brought her joy while she was alive.
