RANTAU PANJANG: A man believed to be linked to a drug syndicate rammed a General Operations Force (GOF) vehicle while trying to evade arrest during an anti-drug operation here today, fracturing a police corporal's right arm.
GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Ahmad Radzi Hussain said the 41-year-old corporal, who was driving the four-wheel-drive vehicle, was taken to Hospital Lati in Pasir Mas for treatment.
He said the incident followed an operation by a Strike Force team from the GOF Ninth Battalion, which received information about a drug syndicate using courier services to distribute drugs to several states in Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak.
"At 1.30pm, the team went to a courier service premises in Rantau Panjang and found six plastic packages believed to contain drugs.
"Checks revealed about 70g of cannabis buds, 10 units of cannabis oil and 3kg of compressed cannabis," he said.
Radzi said the team later encountered a Toyota Camry driven by a man believed to be linked to the drugs found at the premises.
"The 35-year-old suspect allegedly sped off for about 2km to evade inspection before his car collided with the GOF vehicle as personnel tried to stop him.
"The collision fractured the corporal's right arm, while the other three personnel escaped unhurt.
"The suspect was arrested after the Toyota Camry became stuck," he said.
A search of the car led to the seizure of six bottles containing a dark liquid suspected to be codeine.
Radzi said the suspect was believed to be linked to a drug distribution syndicate operating in Rantau Panjang and Pasir Mas.
The drugs and suspected codeine mixture, worth more than RM10,000, were seized.
The case has been referred to the Pasir Mas police for further investigation.
