Dubai: It's raining in the UAE – and you can expect more in the coming months, according to the latest seasonal forecast issued by the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) yesterday.
The NCM stated that significant El Niño activity has already begun, with warming intensified during October and November, and certain regions of the Pacific reaching 2.3°C above the long-term average. El Niño is a natural climate pattern marked by unusually warm sea surface temperatures in the central and eastern Pacific Ocean.
For the UAE, this means temperatures and precipitation are expected to be near to above average, from November 2026 to March 2027, because of the impact of El Niño.
Rain in the east
Today, the NCM forecasts fair to partly cloudy weather, with a chance of some convective cloud formation eastward and southward by afternoon, associated with rainfall in regions like Fujairah and Al Ain.
Humidity is set to build up by night and Tuesday morning over some coastal areas, with a probability of fog or mist formation. This means Dubai and Abu Dhabi may experience fog overnight and early tomorrow, so be cautious when driving, as visibility may be impacted.
Mid-30s temperatures
Temperatures are in the mid-30s across the emirates.
Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah will reach a high of 38°C today, while Dubai, Sharjah, and Umm Al Quwain will peak at 37°C. Ajman will experience 36°C weather, while Fujairah will remain the coolest emirate at 34°C.
Calm seas
The seas along the eastern and western coastlines are tranquil today, according to the NCM, as both the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman will see slight conditions, with gentle waves on-shore rising to two feet, and waves off-shore rising to three feet.
