President Bola Tinubu on Saturday arrived in Kaduna State for the flag-off of the All Progressives Congress’ 2027 presidential campaign. Vice President Kashim Shettima and his wife, Nana, also arrived in the state for the event.
A former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, said in a post on X that the Director-General of the campaign and the APC National Chairman were at the airport to receive Tinubu after the Presidential aircraft landed in Kaduna.
In another post, with a video of the President and his wife, Oluremi Tinubu disembarking from the plane, the post read, “Touched down.”
The Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, said Tinubu and the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, had touched down in Kaduna for the flag-off of the 2027 presidential campaign. He added that the President was received by Shettima and the Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani.
Shettima’s arrival was disclosed in a statement by his Spokesman and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), Stanley Nkwocha.
Nkwocha said party leaders, governors, elected officials, political stakeholders and supporters were converging on the Kaduna Township Stadium for the commencement of the nationwide presidential campaign.
According to him, the event puts Kaduna at the heart of the presidential campaign and gives the APC the opportunity to present its “Renewed Hope 2.0” plan and showcase the achievements of the Tinubu administration.
“The stage is set. Kaduna is ready. The 2027 campaign begins!” the statement read in part.
It added, “Asiwaju is here. Northwest for the takeaway!”
Earlier on Saturday, security operatives had sealed off key locations in the Kaduna metropolis ahead of the President’s arrival.
Personnel of the Nigerian Army, Department of State Services, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Immigration Service and the Kaduna State Vigilance Service were deployed across the city.
The operatives were stationed at major roundabouts and roads leading to the venue of the event.
Muhammadu Buhari Way, formerly known as WAFF Road, through which the President and his entourage were expected to pass, was blocked by security personnel.
The Ahmadu Bello Stadium roundabout was also manned by heavily armed soldiers, police officers and plain-clothes operatives.
The heavy security presence disrupted vehicular movement across parts of the metropolis, causing a gridlock that stretched from Junction Road to Ahmadu Bello Way. Motorists and commuters were stranded as movement was restricted along some major routes.
The flag-off comes as the APC intensifies its mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general election, with party leaders and support groups expected to rally behind Tinubu’s bid for a second term.
