SEPANG: Nine lawyers, including several prominent names in the legal fraternity, are representing Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, who faces two charges of voluntarily causing hurt.
The defence team, led by lawyer Kitson Foong, includes Datuk Rosal Azimin Ahmad, Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader, Datuk Yaacob Md Sam, Datuk Dr Baljit Singh Sidhu and Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali.
Rosal said the team also comprised Datuk Ahmad Zaidi Zainal, Md Yunos Shariff and Dr Badruzzaman Ishak.
"All the lawyers representing him (Shuhaily) are his friends," he told reporters after the proceedings at the Sepang Court Complex today.
Rosal said the defence team was waiting for documents related to the case under Section 51A of the Criminal Procedure Code before deciding on its next legal steps.
He said one option was to submit representations to the Attorney-General's Chambers, subject to a review of the documents.
Rosal also clarified that Shuhaily was appearing as a summoned person in the proceedings, adding that the charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code was a compoundable offence.
The court fixed Nov 25 for mention.
Earlier, Shuhaily, 54, was charged with two counts of voluntarily causing hurt to two Special Branch policemen on Sept 28.
The court granted him bail of RM1,500 for each charge, totalling RM3,000, with one surety.
