Aspirants who cleared the Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET-1) and were demanding the publication of the merit list for undergraduate teacher (UGT) recruitment have temporarily withdrawn their sit-in protest following an appeal by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and his assurance that the issue would be addressed after Durga Puja.
The candidates had launched the agitation in front of the Siksha Bhavan on Thursday, demanding a clear timeline for the publication of the merit list.
A delegation of the protesting candidates met Tripura Teachers’ Recruitment Board (TRBT) chairman Pratyush Ranjan Deb on Friday and sought an explanation for the delay in the recruitment process and the legal complications cited by the authorities.
The candidates alleged that repeated appeals to the authorities had failed to elicit any specific assurance regarding the publication of the merit list. They also claimed that some protesters had spent nights on the streets during the Durga Puja festivities, facing difficulties due to a lack of food, mosquito bites and adverse weather conditions.
The candidates said the authorities had repeatedly cited legal complications as the reason for the delay but had not provided specific details about the cases holding up the recruitment process. They demanded transparency regarding the pending cases and a definite timeline for resolving the legal hurdles.
Meanwhile, Dr Saha appealed to the candidates to withdraw their protest, stating that the government was aware of their demands and would take the necessary steps to address the issue.
Following the chief minister’s assurance that the matter would be resolved after Durga Puja, the candidates decided to suspend their agitation for the time being.
The candidates had been seeking clarity on the recruitment process and the publication of the merit list.
