IPOH: Flash floods triggered by more than two hours of continuous heavy rain early today affected nine areas on Pangkor Island.
The Perak Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said the affected areas included Kampung Sungai Pinang Besar, Kampung Masjid, Kampung Teluk Kecil, Kampung Hussin, Teluk Gedung and Kampung Tengah.
Other affected locations were the Rumah Murah area, Taman Pangkor Mutiara and Taman Sri Pangkor.
The secretariat said the floods were first reported at 5.30am and were caused by continuous heavy rain rather than high tide.
"Floodwaters had completely receded by 2pm today, and residents are now cleaning their homes," it said.
Meanwhile, the flood situation in Larut, Matang and Selama has also improved, with three temporary relief centres (PPS) closing at 1.30pm today.
The centres were at SK Changkat Ibol, Dewan Masjid Al-Wusta Batu 8 and Dewan Perdana Trong.
However, two other PPS at SK Matang and SK Matang Gelugor remain operational.
The two centres are sheltering 146 flood victims from 48 families.
