Stellenbosch FC have bolstered their midfield with the acquisition of 20-year-old Nigerian playmaker Lateef Adeyanju Kazeem, who arrived on a free transfer from Nigerian Professional Football League side Plateau United.
The Betway Premiership club confirmed the signing after completing all required formalities last month, with the new recruit expected to add depth to coach Gavin Hunt's attacking unit.
**Who Is Lateef Kazeem?**
Born in Saki, Nigeria, Kazeem is a left-footed attacking midfielder who operates primarily in the number 10 role, though his versatility allows him to feature across various wide attacking positions. He will wear the number 29 jersey for the Maroons.
His arrival at the club closely follows the signing of former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Darrel Matsheke, underscoring Stellenbosch's intent to refresh their options going forward this season.
**Stellenbosch's Form and What Lies Ahead**
The Cape Winelands side have had an uneven start to the 2026/27 campaign, picking up nine points from seven matches with two wins, three draws and two defeats, placing them seventh on the Betway Premiership table.
Their season opened with a 1-0 home loss to AmaZulu FC, followed by a 3-3 draw away to Polokwane City. Stellenbosch then recorded a convincing 3-1 win over Marumo Gallants at Athlone Stadium before suffering a 1-0 defeat to Golden Arrows. Draws against Durban City and Sekhukhune United followed, before Keanan Johannesen's first-half goal secured a 1-0 victory over Kruger United ahead of the recent league break.
Stellenbosch now face a stiff test when they travel to FNB Stadium to take on Kaizer Chiefs on Tuesday, with kick-off scheduled for 19:30. The fixture could serve as an early introduction for Kazeem to South African football audiences.
