Two tourists were allegedly assaulted by a 34-year-old man when they were walking back from the Bruno Mars concert.
On Oct. 21 at around 11 p.m., Vancouver Police Department (VPD) officers who were on a routine patrol witnessed the altercation between the suspect and two people.
The incident occurred near Abbott and West Cordova streets.
Oct. 21 was the final date of Mars’ five-show run in Vancouver.
Police say that the two victims were tourists from Calgary, and that while walking back from the concert, the suspect “allegedly punched the male victim on the arm with a sharp object.”
VPD believes that the sharp object was glass.
According to VPD, the force of that punch was so strong that it pushed the female victim into a nearby light pole.
Emergency Health Services attended the scene, treating the male victim for a cut he sustained on his left forearm.
The suspect, 34-year-old Derek Dale Driscoll, is known to police, as his name pops up in other crime reports.
VPD said that Driscoll had two outstanding warrants, including one in relation to an alleged breach of a probation order, and another for failing to appear in court.
VPD says that Driscoll was arrested, transported to jail, and has since been charged with assault, assault causing bodily harm, and assault with a weapon.
Driscoll remains in custody as he awaits a bail hearing.
