England have recalled Jofra Archer and Jacob Bethell to their ODI squad for the November tour of Australia as they step up preparations for next year’s ODI World Cup. While Archer has been rested for the upcoming tri-series in Pakistan, Bethell returns after recovering from the knee injury he sustained during the ODI series against India in July.
Harry Brook will lead a 16-member ODI squad that is expected to be close to full strength. However, England will be without Jos Buttler, who is recovering from recent hamstring surgery, and Saqib Mahmood, who has been sidelined by a knee injury.
England have also announced their T20I squad for the tour, with four uncapped players earning selection.
Archer’s return bolsters England’s pace attack ahead of their preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup, while Bethell’s inclusion adds another option to the batting line-up following his recovery from injury.
England national selector Marcus North said the return of the duo would allow the side to approach the ODI series at close to full strength as they build towards next year’s global tournament.
“The returns of Jacob Bethell and Jofra Archer for the ODI series means that we will be at close to full strength as we ramp up preparations for a World Cup in a year’s time,” North said.
However, Archer, Gus Atkinson, Sonny Baker and Josh Tongue will not feature in the subsequent T20I series as England manage their fast bowlers ahead of the Test tour of South Africa.

England have introduced fresh faces to their T20I set-up, with Rew and Jack earning their maiden international call-ups. Rew, 18, is the youngest member of the squad and received his first ECB central contract a day before the announcement.
Rew captained England to the final of the ICC Men's Under-19 World Cup in February. Both he and Jack were also part of the England Lions squad that toured Australia last year.
Salt returns after recovering from the quad injury that ruled him out of England’s 3-0 T20I series win over Sri Lanka last month. Aneurin Donald has retained his place after making his international debut during that series, while Wood has also been recalled. North said England were keen to test themselves against Australia in their home conditions, pointing to the team’s recent form under Brook’s leadership.
“Our T20 team has been in excellent form under captain Harry Brook and we are looking forward to the opportunity to test ourselves in Australian conditions against a very good team,” he said.

England’s white-ball tour will begin with a warm-up match at the WACA in Perth on November 7. The three-match ODI series will be played in Perth, Adelaide and Hobart before the teams switch to the shortest format.
The five-match T20I series will begin at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on November 21, with subsequent matches scheduled in Gold Coast, Brisbane, Sydney and Canberra.
