Travis Hunter entered Sunday’s matchup against the Houston Texans with something to prove about his value as a two-way player. By the fourth quarter in London, the Jacksonville Jaguars star had delivered a performance that connected his name to a rare NFL achievement last recorded 24 years ago.
Hunter made an impact on offense and defense in the Jaguars’ meeting with the Texans. His touchdown reception and end-zone interception made him the first NFL player since Brian Dawkins in 2002 to record both in the same game.
Travis Hunter Delivers Historic Two-Way Performance
Hunter’s breakthrough came early in the fourth quarter, when quarterback Trevor Lawrence found him for a seven-yard touchdown reception. The score brought Jacksonville closer as the Jaguars tried to overcome Houston’s lead.
His contribution did not end in the end zone. On Houston’s next possession, Hunter intercepted C.J. Stroud in the end zone, preventing the Texans from extending their advantage and giving Jacksonville another opportunity to respond.

The sequence made Hunter’s achievement particularly notable because the two plays came on opposite sides of the ball. He had scored as a receiver before disrupting Houston’s offense as a defensive back, delivering the rare combination that had not been recorded since 2002.
Hunter finished with four receptions for 59 yards and a touchdown. On defense, he recorded three tackles and an interception, showing his ability to contribute in both roles in the same game.
Brian Dawkins Set the Previous Benchmark in 2002
The last player to accomplish the same feat was Brian Dawkins, the former Philadelphia Eagles safety. He caught a touchdown pass and intercepted a pass against the Houston Texans in September 2002, during a game Philadelphia won 35-17.

Dawkins’ touchdown came on a fake punt, making his achievement unusual even among defensive players known for their versatility. He also recorded a sack and a fumble recovery in that game, producing four different types of major plays.
Hunter’s performance places him alongside Dawkins in a rare corner of NFL history. Their roles differed, but both showed how a player can influence the game beyond the responsibilities normally associated with his position.
Jaguars Lose Despite Hunter’s Historic Achievement
Jacksonville could not turn Hunter’s performance into a victory. Houston defeated the Jaguars 34-31 after Ka’imi Fairbairn kicked a 49-yard field goal as time expired, ending Jacksonville’s three-game winning streak.

Hunter’s interception gave Cam Little the chance to drill a 60-yard field goal and tie it late in the fourth. Then Stroud took over, marching the Texans downfield to set up Fairbairn’s game-winning kick.
The result left Jacksonville with a narrow defeat despite Hunter’s historic contribution. His performance gave the Jaguars a rare two-way milestone, even as the final score went Houston’s way.
