Staind have unleashed “Ghosts,” their first new song in three years. While right now the track has been released as a stand-alone single, the band is promising more music to come very soon.
“Ghosts” is a radio-ready hard-rock track that features some heavy riffage by guitarist Mike Mushok alongside singer Aaron Lewis’ instantly recognizable nasal resonance, with a surprising guttural scream from the frontman around the two-minute mark.
The track was recorded with producer Erik Ron (Godsmack, Bad Omens, Papa Roach) in Nashville, and is being touted as the beginning of the band’s next era.
“We went down to Nashville for a writing trip with Erik,” stated Mushok. “We had gotten together, and I came up with the riff on the spot. From there, Erik and I put the track together in just one day and finished it up. Aaron listened to it a little later and did this really great vocal over it. ‘Ghosts’ ended up being a very dynamic song.”
Lewis added, “It seemed like everybody had gravitated towards ‘Ghosts.’ It’s a little different, and it surprised all of us. It’s got some heavy elements, but it’s certainly melodic, too. It’s definitely Staind.”
The song comes a week after Staind announced a 2027 North American leg of their ongoing “Break the Cycle 25th Anniversary Tour” celebrating their seven-times-platinum 2001 album. Tickets for the outing are available here.
