By Breaking Belize News Staff: An 18-year-old Belize City man accused of burglarizing his former workplace and damaging a $250 surveillance camera has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison after failing to meet bail.
Tyrese Tamron Williams, also known as “Nickels,” appeared unrepresented before a magistrate in Belize City on Tuesday, October 20, where he was charged with burglary in connection with an incident at Mendoza’s Automotive on Vernon Street.
According to police, the business owner reported that a surveillance camera had gone missing from his business. Upon reviewing security footage, he allegedly observed Williams, whom he had known for approximately five years, removing a white Zosi surveillance camera on September 21, 2026.
During his arraignment, Williams told the court that he previously worked for Mendoza and was willing to compensate the company for the damaged camera. He explained that his grandmother, with whom he resides, had already spoken to the businessman about the matter.
The magistrate instructed the prosecution to establish whether Mendoza would be willing to accept compensation before the next hearing.
With no objection from the prosecution, Williams was granted bail of $3,000 plus one surety of the same amount. However, he was unable to meet the bail requirements and was remanded to prison.
As conditions of bail, Williams must not contact or interfere with the complainant and must attend all scheduled court appearances.
His next court date is December 8, 2026.
