Anybody want to watch Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) doing the dirty on Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) in Coronation Street? No? Me neither.
This Corrie couple go together like lamb and spuds in a hotpot.
Throughout Deb’s ongoing battle with vascular dementia, Ronnie has been the silver lining on a very dark cloud – not forgetting her girl squad, Debbie’s Angels, of course.
Ronnie has supported Debbie through her two biggest obstacles to a happy life – the dementia, and her ratbag son Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard).
Even after Carl gaslit Debbie into going to prison for his own drunk driving that was so bad that he literally crashed into another soap opera, Ronniewaited for her on the outside. He was always there to hold Deb’s hand.
Unfortunately, her condition has taken a sharp decline since then, and Ronnie’s relationship with Debbie seems far more like that of a carer than a husband. She’s getting worse by the day, and Ronnie is struggling to cope.
It’s breaking Ronnie’s heart to see the woman he loves slowly slip away, especially when she temporarily forgot his name during some ‘couples’ time’.
Suddenly, Ronnie felt like he could no longer be intimate with Debbie, as her dementia prevents her from giving informed consent. This prompted Ronnie to seek help by attended a dementia support group.
Unfortunately, Debbie got the wrong end of the stick and thought he might be cheating. So did Abi Webster (Sally Carman-Duttine) when she caught him embracing another woman.
Sadly, this might just be the least of Debbie’s worries.
Next week’s Coronation Street sees the return of Debbie’s old enemy from prison, Paula (Kelli Hollis).
This nasty piece of work has got a bone to pick with Debs, who threw her out of the Chariot Square Hotel Bar for being disorderly. The beef only got worse in prison, when Debbie accidentally insulted Paula’s ex-boyfriend while trying to comfort her.
This led to her being number one on the jailbird’s hit list – until she got out of course.
In case her fellow inmate looking for revenge wasn’t enough drama to be going on with, Debbie’s got other problems.
Her continued insistence in keeping her job at the Chariot Square Hotel despite her dementia has led to all sorts of mistakes. The most recent one is booking bride-to-be Denise’s wedding for the wrong date. This comes back to bite Debbie in a big way next week.
Fuming over the slip-up. Denise tells Ryan (Ryan Prescott) that she doesn’t want Debbie anywhere near her wedding day because she’s a liability.
Meanwhile Paula confronts Debbie and makes a chilling threat.
As Ryan shows Denise around, they come across Debbie and Paula arguing. Denise demands her deposit back and storms out.
When Denise’s fiance, Stan, arrives, Debbie explains that he’s missed her and offers him a glass of wine. She ends up crying on Stan’s shoulder and bemoaning how her husband doesn’t fancy her annymore.
Then Ronnie enters, and finds Debbie flirting up a storm with Stan.
How will Ronnie react?
