Sophon plans to shut down its blockchain on November 30, but users have been told to withdraw their assets by November 25. Some of the websites and infrastructure needed to complete that work may start closing after the earlier date. The instruction reaches beyond SOPH tokens sitting in a wallet: ETH and USDC on the chain, rewards waiting to be claimed and assets deposited in Sophon Farm can require separate steps. Someone who already holds the Ethereum version of SOPH faces a different situation from someone whose balance is still on the departing network.
Summary
- Sophon has set November 25, 2026, as the deadline to withdraw assets from its chain.
- Its mainnet is scheduled for final shutdown five days later, on November 30.
- The team names SOPH, ETH, USDC, staking rewards, Guardian rewards and farm assets.
- Binance ended Sophon mainnet transfers on August 4 and moved SOPH support to Ethereum.
- Upbit has scheduled an end to SOPH trading on November 16, ahead of the chain closure.
Sophon has scheduled its mainnet’s final shutdown for November 30 and told users to remove assets by November 25. Its October 19 announcement names SOPH, ETH and USDC among balances that need attention, while separate claims may remain for staking, Guardian and farming participants. Key infrastructure and related websites are expected to begin closing after the earlier date, according to the project’s notice.

Five days separate Sophon’s withdrawal date from its planned network shutdown, yet the project has not presented that gap as extra time to move funds. A chain could still produce blocks after a claim site or a bridge has stopped serving users. Sophon warns that assets left behind could become permanently inaccessible. Even if a wallet continues to display an old balance, the visible number would not show that a route to another network still works.
Two deadlines govern the exit
November 30 is the planned end of the mainnet. November 25 is the deadline Sophon gives users to withdraw before it begins closing key infrastructure and websites. A reader may see the later date in a headline and assume assets can be moved until the final moment. The announcement makes the opposite point. Five calendar days separate the two, but Sophon has not guaranteed that every interface, bridge or transaction path remains available through that interval.
The shutdown timetable published by crypto.news identifies several kinds of assets to check. Liquid balances in a wallet or claims portal are one category. Accrued but unpaid rewards are another. Funds deposited into Sophon Farm require action through the farming service. An exchange account is a fourth category because the exchange controls its supported deposit and withdrawal networks. One route cannot be assumed to move all four.
Sophon directs users to its official claims portal for liquid assets and outstanding staking and Guardian rewards, and to the farming interface identified in its announcement for assets left there. The claims portal’s visible page content is limited without connecting a wallet, so an external observer cannot verify any particular user’s entitlement or the site’s live completion rate from the landing page alone. The project’s instruction identifies the intended route; individual success depends on the position and the transaction actually settling.
The notice urges holders to use official links because fake migration websites can appear around a deadline. A user should verify the destination from Sophon’s own domain or official account and check the network shown in the wallet before authorizing a transaction. No private key or recovery phrase is needed to receive a routine onchain withdrawal. A request to enter one would be a separate security warning, not part of the published instruction.
Sophon has given November 25 as the withdrawal date without specifying a cutoff hour or timezone in its announcement. Holders cannot assume the process will remain open until midnight in their local time. The project may publish a more precise cutoff, but its current instructions give users a date to finish withdrawals before the network or website closes.
A token can survive the chain that issued it
SOPH’s situation illustrates why “the token is shutting down” is an imprecise description. Binance announced in July that it would stop accepting Sophon mainnet deposits and withdrawals from August 4. It said it would support SOPH through Ethereum’s ERC20 network at a 1 to 1 migration ratio, while its spot, margin, futures and Earn services would not be affected by that network change. A holder whose account already reflects the exchange supported Ethereum version does not have an onchain balance on the retiring Sophon mainnet simply because the asset’s ticker is SOPH.
An owner who still holds SOPH on the Sophon chain has a different task. The user needs a supported migration or withdrawal route before the cutoff. Sending the old network’s tokens to an exchange deposit address after the exchange has stopped supporting that network risks an uncredited transfer. The destination asset name may look identical, but the exchange’s approved network is part of the address and crediting instruction. Confirmation of a successful migration requires checking the receiving chain and the resulting token balance, not merely seeing an outbound transaction on Sophon.
SOPH previously served as a gas and staking asset on Sophon’s own network. Its token transition materials now describe a business in which revenue from apps would fund purchases and burns of the token. That would make SOPH’s future supply story depend on whether the apps attract paying users, how much revenue remains after costs and how much the team spends on buybacks. Closing the chain ends its old source of gas demand. Sophon has not published an audited revenue forecast that would put a number on the proposed replacement.
The site currently describes itself as a technology studio and presents Pyre as a payments product. It lists other consumer finance and AI plans. A product description does not establish card availability, geographic reach, transaction volume or revenue. The closure of the blockchain and the continued existence of a token are verified separately. Sophon’s account of why the token should retain a role after the network ends remains its business thesis, contingent on products generating cash.
The economic comparison can be made without a price prediction. A token used for network fees derives one source of demand from transactions paid on that network. If those transactions stop with the chain, the mechanism ends. A buyback funded by app revenue would depend on realized revenue, expenses and the share of proceeds committed to purchases. No amount can be derived from the old transaction count alone. A holder considering the token’s role has to follow the new app disclosures, not treat token continuity as continuity of network utility.

Rewards and farm deposits need their own route
Sophon calls out staking and Guardian rewards explicitly. A wallet might show a principal balance while an accrued reward is accounted for in a separate contract or claim system. Moving the liquid token balance does not automatically prove the reward was claimed. The project directs users to check outstanding entitlements through the official claims portal. The relevant amount may depend on each account’s participation and the rules of the original rewards program.
Sophon Farm adds custody by smart contract to the user’s path. Deposited assets are not necessarily sitting as a free wallet balance. A position can represent a claim against a pool, perhaps with rewards or a withdrawal process defined by that pool. The project tells users with farm assets to withdraw them through its designated farming platform before the cutoff. The public announcement does not list every possible asset or position configuration. A reader should check their own transaction history and the interface specific to the position.
One account can hold several unfinished pieces of business under the Sophon name. Someone might already have SOPH on Ethereum while ETH remains on the Sophon chain and a Guardian reward is still waiting to be claimed. Transferring the Ethereum token would leave the other two untouched. In reporting the progress of the migration, “moved” has to refer to a specific asset, network and position; the status of one balance cannot stand in for the whole account.
Gas and account access can add friction. A withdrawal transaction on a live chain generally requires a working wallet, network connection and sufficient resources to pay any relevant transaction fees. A claim might require approval, an unlock period or a destination wallet. Sophon’s October notice does not enumerate fees for every route, so none should be invented. The actionable verification is a completed transaction with a receiving balance at the intended destination while the official services still operate.
After service shutdown, the ability to inspect historical transactions may persist through archives or third party data, but historical evidence of a balance is not the same thing as an operational bridge. A block explorer can show where assets were last recorded without providing the keys, validators, proofs or contract path needed to move them elsewhere. Sophon warns of permanent inaccessibility, not a defined recovery program. No public promise to honor late claims has been supplied in the October announcement.
The project had already abandoned the chain business
Sophon’s October schedule follows its June decision to retire a dedicated layer 2 and focus on applications built on Base. The company previously said maintaining its own infrastructure was costly relative to what its users needed. Its website now states that it raised $60 million in 2024 to build a chain and later rebuilt its business around products. The $60 million is Sophon’s own description of funds raised, not a current treasury balance or money available to compensate stranded users.
The original plan gave the SOPH token a role in transactions and staking on the dedicated chain. A studio building apps on Base can use a different chain’s infrastructure and distribution. That saves Sophon from operating every piece of a separate network, but it changes which activity directly uses SOPH. Sophon says app revenue will support buybacks and burns. The plan depends on actual products and financial results, neither of which is demonstrated by the migration deadline alone.
In June reporting, Sophon described a possible annual infrastructure saving near $3 million as it stopped maintaining its own chain. That is a company estimate of avoided spending, not a verified profit from the new app business. Savings and app revenues are different items. A $3 million lower annual cost does not mean $3 million automatically goes to SOPH purchases, and the project has not given a guaranteed allocation from its future revenue.
Its new website presents Pyre, a payments app with a card concept, and sketches several adjacent products. The site does not provide audited revenue, customer numbers or a product launch report that would let us compute a buyback amount. A feature about the network closure can record the new thesis without turning a marketing description into evidence that the replacement business already works.
The difference between a chain and an app is relevant to developers as well as token holders. A team that deployed a contract to Sophon cannot assume the deployed address, stored state or user balances have been reproduced on Base. New deployments and migration of user positions would require application specific work. Sophon’s October public notice primarily instructs holders to withdraw assets; it does not describe an automatic transfer of every third party contract, balance or application into a new deployment.
Exchanges have their own calendars
An exchange may stop trading an asset before or after a network’s own deadline. Upbit first placed SOPH under a warning on September 22, citing disclosure and circulation plan concerns and halting deposits during its review. The exchange’s action was a market support decision, distinct from Sophon’s plan to close its blockchain.
Upbit plans to end SOPH trading on November 16, nine days before Sophon’s withdrawal deadline. Reporting on the exchange’s notice puts its separate withdrawal window through December 16. A customer with SOPH held by Upbit should follow the exchange’s supported networks and account instructions, while a user with assets still on Sophon’s chain faces the project’s November 25 deadline. The later exchange date cannot reopen a claim site or bridge that Sophon has closed.
Binance gave its customers a different schedule in July, moving supported SOPH transfers from Sophon to Ethereum in August. Its review tag for SOPH concerned exchange monitoring. The tag does not itself mean spot trading stopped, and the network migration does not guarantee a listing will continue forever. The exchange’s live account instructions govern any particular deposit route.
These calendar differences matter because “withdraw SOPH” can mean several things. Withdrawing from a centralized exchange means asking it to send a supported token on a supported network to a wallet. Withdrawing from Sophon Farm means exiting an onchain position. Moving a Sophon chain asset through a claim portal or bridge means completing the project’s migration procedure. An exchange’s later deadline cannot substitute for the project’s earlier deadline if the balance is still on the closing chain.
SOPH is only one part of the withdrawal problem. Users who hold ETH or USDC on Sophon still need a working route to move those balances, regardless of what Binance or Upbit decide about the SOPH listing. A familiar ticker can obscure the network on which an asset is recorded. Seeing ETH or USDC trade elsewhere says nothing about whether a balance left on Sophon will remain redeemable after the chain’s services close.
The strongest case for closing a chain
Sophon argues that building consumer apps on established infrastructure is a better use of resources than operating a little used separate chain. It can place products on Base without paying for every element of its previous network stack. If the new products attract customers and generate revenue, the studio could pursue the buyback and burn model it has described. The June announcement and current website make the strategy plain, even though the future results are unproven.
The opposing concern is borne by existing users. Closing a network imposes an action deadline on wallets, farm positions and unclaimed rewards, including accounts that may not follow daily project announcements. Someone who entered an application through a third party may need to identify the chain of the asset and find the relevant withdrawal interface. The burden of a successful migration sits with the person controlling the wallet or the service holding assets on that person’s behalf. Sophon’s announcement warns of consequences if assets remain.
The project has a defined shutdown schedule, which gives users time to act. It has named asset categories and official routes rather than simply announcing that the chain will stop tomorrow. Yet 35 days from October 20 to November 25 is not equivalent to a guaranteed recovery window after closure. Network congestion, a wallet mistake, a frozen position or a failed bridge could consume time. The notice’s five day gap after the withdrawal date limits a reader’s ability to assume the chain will remain usable until the final shutdown.
The two perspectives do not require an unsupported verdict about whether the business pivot will succeed. A studio can rationally decide a chain costs too much and still owe users clear withdrawal procedures and a reliable deadline. Evidence of successful migration would be completed exits and reconciled balances, not a declaration that the next product will be more popular. Evidence of a failed process would require documented trapped assets or service failure, not merely the possibility of either.

Another chain closure shows how deadlines differ
Sophon is not the only 2026 project retiring network infrastructure. The ICON network closure schedule set a different timetable and a migration to SODA. Comparing the names of the projects or the word “shutdown” can hide different token routes and finality rules. A holder’s actual steps have to come from the specific chain and the services that custody that holder’s assets.
Low fee revenue and continuing infrastructure costs have squeezed the economics of Ethereum layer 2 networks. Sophon has cited the cost of running its own chain. Neither figure shows how many users still hold assets on Sophon today. A meaningful measure of migration progress would require dated onchain balances and completed withdrawals, with contract locked positions separated from liquid wallet balances.
The total value displayed by an explorer is not necessarily the amount every user can move through a single portal. Bridged assets can sit in contracts, staking positions may be subject to claims and balances on centralized exchanges may be held on a different network entirely. A snapshot of chain total value before a closure can mix those categories. The October notice does not publish a complete, independently audited inventory of stranded assets or a commitment to redeem all assets after November 25.
The best public evidence of an orderly wind down would include changes in contract balances, successful migrations to their stated destinations, continued availability of official interfaces through the deadline and a final accounting from the team. A decline in SOPH’s market price would not establish how much ETH or USDC remained trapped, just as a successful exchange token conversion would not settle whether every farm account withdrew. Each claim requires its own records.
What closure still does not tell us
The public announcement does not identify a precise final block height, a shutdown hour in UTC or the status of every third party app. It sets the user deadline and mainnet date. The team may publish operational details before November 25. Until then, reporting a specific minute of finality or a confirmed automatic rescue of all remaining assets would go beyond its instructions.
Nor has Sophon shown how much of the promised product revenue will be available for token buybacks. Its site says revenue from its products would buy and burn SOPH, but the products, margins and schedule have not been documented in audited results. The winding down of a chain is a concrete event; the performance of the successor business is an open question. A token’s quotation on an exchange after November 30 would show trading, not prove the studio’s revenue thesis.
On the assets, the instruction is narrower and measurable. Sophon has told users to remove tokens and collect outstanding rewards by November 25, before the planned November 30 shutdown. The official claim and farm paths are separate; an exchange transfer route depends on the network the exchange currently accepts. No extension or late recovery procedure is guaranteed by the October 19 notice.
What to watch
- November 25 withdrawal deadline: Check Sophon’s official account for a precise time, changes to service availability and any extension.
- Claims portal completion: Confirm liquid assets and staking or Guardian rewards arrive on the intended destination network.
- Farm exits: Monitor whether deposited assets and accrued rewards can be withdrawn through the designated farming route.
- Exchange notices: Upbit’s November 16 trading cutoff and each exchange’s supported SOPH withdrawal network have separate terms.
- Final network accounting: Compare dated onchain balances and the November 30 shutdown notice with successful withdrawals.
FAQ
When will Sophon shut down its mainnet?
Sophon has scheduled the final shutdown for November 30, 2026. It tells users to withdraw by November 25 because infrastructure and websites can begin closing after that earlier date.
Which assets should users check?
The announcement names SOPH, ETH, USDC and other assets on Sophon. It separately identifies outstanding staking and Guardian rewards and deposits in Sophon Farm.
Is November 30 the withdrawal deadline?
No. Sophon’s instruction gives November 25 as the date for user action. The five days before the mainnet shutdown should not be treated as guaranteed access to withdrawal services.
Does shutting the chain end the SOPH token?
Not necessarily. Binance previously moved supported SOPH transfers to an Ethereum ERC20 version at a 1 to 1 ratio. The retiring Sophon chain and an Ethereum token balance are different things.
Can a user send old Sophon SOPH to any exchange?
No. An exchange may have stopped accepting deposits on the Sophon network. The current supported network and address must be checked against the exchange’s own instructions before a transfer.
What happens to staking or Guardian rewards?
Sophon directs users to its official claim route to collect outstanding rewards before November 25. Moving a liquid wallet balance does not establish that a separate reward claim has been collected.
Did Upbit set the same deadline as Sophon?
No. Upbit’s reported SOPH trading cutoff is November 16, with an exchange withdrawal period extending later. That exchange calendar does not change Sophon’s November 25 chain withdrawal instruction.
Will assets left after the shutdown be recovered?
Sophon warns that they could become permanently inaccessible and has not promised a late recovery route in the October notice. A later rescue cannot be presumed from a wallet’s historical balance. This is educational analysis, not investment advice.
