LAHORE: In a mandatory move by the Punjab government to secure public transport and bring vehicles within the domain of the law, the process of pasting QR “Pink Buttons” is underway across the province on the special directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, ARY News reported.
A total of 82,000 QR Pink Buttons have been pasted on public transport vehicles, rickshaws, and online cabs. Furthermore, 22,000 men and women have scanned the QR Pink Buttons in online cabs and rickshaws so far.
According to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Sherazi, the QR Pink Buttons are being installed at 45 locations across the city. The provincial government has taken this vital step to ensure safer public travel and enforce regulatory compliance.
The CTO noted that in cases of harassment, women can immediately scan the QR code to seek emergency assistance. Dedicated installation teams are present in every traffic sector, alongside 12 separate teams specifically allocated for installing the buttons on rickshaws.
Additionally, CTO Sherazi informed that upon the request of rickshaw unions, four new licensing centers have been established. He emphasized that the promotion of modern security features and smart traffic management is being actively ensured.
Finally, the CTO warned that a strict decision has been taken to take action against online cab services that fail to adopt the new safety and security features.
