Volodymyr Zelensky said the Armed Forces of Ukraine have “received all relevant orders” related to the energy truce Donald Trump announced on October 11.
It remains unclear what specific orders the military received. However, Zelensky confirmed that Ukraine “supports all real and reliable formats for a ceasefire and an end to the war.”
“Ukraine is ready not to strike Russian energy facilities, and we are counting on similar readiness from Russia and an agreement by the US president on this issue,” Zelensky said in his evening video address.
Zelensky said Ukraine had offered numerous steps toward de-escalation, but Putin “responded to all of them with one thing: his own “no.”” “We very much hope that he will finally tell America, Ukraine, and the whole world something different,” he added.
Zelensky said Russia continued attacking Ukrainian energy facilities throughout the day and had “just” struck the CHPP-5 power plant in Kharkiv.
Russia has not yet officially commented on the energy truce Trump announced. Igor Ananskikh, first deputy chairman of the energy committee of the State Duma, the lower house of Russia’s parliament, told the Russian Telegram news channel Ostorozhno Novosti that “Trump often says things to keep oil prices from rising.” “These are so-called verbal investments. I don’t know how true this is,” he added.
