The Boston Red Sox struggled on offense in September and in the Wild Card Series against the New York Yankees.
Boston's lineup could use a few more heavy hitters.
Their 163 home runs ranked 26th in the Majors, only 11 more than the 30th-ranked Toronto Blue Jays.
"Boston did not have a single 30-home-run hitter in 2026, and who on their roster would you expect to hit 30 home runs in 2027? Whether you want to hear this or not, home runs are needed to win in the playoffs.
"Stringing hits together against elite pitching is just too difficult. Getting another power bat to hit alongside the likes of Anthony, Rutschman, and Willson Contreras would make Boston much scarier," FanSided's Zachary Rotman wrote.
Perhaps the Red Sox could use more than one power hitter, especially if Roman Anthony's hand injury impacts his ability to put the ball over the fence.

Of the existing players on the roster, third/second baseman Curtis Mead could provide a power surge.
He hit 17 homers in 87 games with the Washington Nationals before a trade to the Red Sox.
For the Red Sox to make noise in a crowded AL East in 2027, they'll need to identify and target sluggers who could benefit from the Green Monster at Fenway Park.
