The National Orientation Agency (NOA), Akwa Ibom State, has begun an awareness campaign on the Ebola virus, urging the people to remain vigilant and take necessary precautionary measures against the deadly disease, following reports of its confirmation in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Mkpoutom Mkpoutom, State Director of the Agency, who launched the campaign urged residents to prioritise their health and safety by maintaining good personal hygiene, avoiding contact with the blood and other bodily fluids of suspected infected persons and refraining from touching the bodies of individuals who may have died from the disease.
He emphasised the importance of public awareness and responsible health practices in preventing the spread of infectious diseases.
Mkpoutom also encouraged residents to seek prompt medical attention if they experience symptoms associated with Ebola, such as fever, severe weakness, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, or unexplained bleeding, particularly if they have had possible exposure to the virus.

Similarly, he called on government officials securing waterways, the airport, land borders and other entry points into the state to be on alert ensuring that those coming into the state are properly screened.
He appealed to all residents to remain calm, vigilant, cooperate with health authorities, and take preventive measures seriously to protect themselves, their families and their communities.
