Gears of War: E-Day is out now. Here are the official fixes for matchmaking issues, the quentin-ephyra error on Xbox, and sign-in problems on PC from The Coalition.
Gears of War: E-Day launched worldwide on October 6 at 8 a.m. PT (15:00 UTC) on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and Steam, and it is available through Game Pass, according to Xbox Wire and the official Xbox page. Premium Edition owners, along with Game Pass subscribers who bought the Premium Upgrade, started playing on October 1. With multiplayer now busy, The Coalition has been working through connection and sign-in problems, and several have official fixes or workarounds.
What the October 5 update fixed
The studio's October 5 patch notes cover several online issues ahead of global release. The update addressed a bug that left some Versus Social matches stuck on the "Waiting for players" screen, improved Xbox authentication handling when a system clock differs significantly from the correct time, and fixed the Bilefrog-Kalona error, which could sign out a split-screen player after suspending and resuming the game. It also improved online-session stability when accessing session information. The same update fixed several campaign and Horde Siege bugs, including a missing extraction helicopter in a Plaza Ruins Blitz mission and players joining an existing campaign receiving War Journal progress and Forge rewards earned before they joined.
Fixing quentin-ephyra on Xbox
Xbox players may also run into quentin-ephyra, which The Coalition describes as an authentication error related to Xbox Quick Resume. The workaround listed on the open beta known issues page is to disable Quick Resume in the console's system settings. Players who keep seeing the error should turn that setting off before trying anything more drastic.
PC sign-in and account errors
On PC, the same page points players to Microsoft's Gaming Services Repair Tool for the LowLevelFatalError affecting Xbox app users and for Steam account linking problems. It also lists bryce-vigil and gill-gutpuncher, caused by a mismatch between a player's hardware date and time and local time. The fix is the Sync Now option in Windows Date and Time settings.
Server status
The Coalition's news page shows, at the time of publication, no outage notice or maintenance announcement as of October 11. Players can also check the official Gears of War status page and the Xbox Live status page before troubleshooting on their end. For anything the known issues do not cover, The Coalition directs players to Gears Support.
