Google will give 200 European researchers access to its most advanced artificial intelligence (AI) models and systems to support scientific research, the US technology giant announced on Wednesday.
The European Commission will select the researchers from among beneficiaries of the European RAISE programme, Google told Agence France-Presse (AFP). The company announced the initiative ahead of an AI summit scheduled to take place in Dublin on Wednesday.
The selected researchers will gain direct access to advanced scientific tools from Google DeepMind and Google Cloud, including AlphaFold 3, which specialises in protein research, AlphaGenome and WeatherNext, a system for weather forecasting.
“By providing critical computing power and cutting-edge tools, this initiative aims to accelerate innovation in Europe and strengthen the competitiveness of the continent’s researchers,” Google said.
The announcement comes as artificial intelligence increasingly transforms scientific research, from mathematics to the biological sciences.
