It said the OSCE’s ODIHR recommended the audit almost 15 years ago. The multiparty commission tasked with reviewing the register is expected to submit its first report by October 28, three days after the October 25 parliamentary elections.
Ognjen Rasuo, a commission member representing the opposition, told BIRN that the report would explain why the audit had not been completed and include recommendations. He said the commission could conclude, even without a detailed analysis, that at least two percent of registered voters had been entered irregularly.
The register contains about 6.45 million voters. The authorities established a commission to review it, but the review has not been completed. Serbians go to the polls for early parliamentary elections on October 25.1
ODIHR's interim report on the current election campaign also noted concerns about unusually high numbers of registered voters in certain municipalities and at specific addresses, and said the authorities had not publicly explained the discrepancies.
The commission's report is due after election day
