In a move aimed at accelerating the development of the handloom, handicrafts and sericulture sectors, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma on Tuesday conducted a comprehensive review of ongoing projects and departmental initiatives during a meeting held at his chamber in the Civil Secretariat, Agartala.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary, Director and senior officials of the Handloom, Handicrafts and Sericulture Department. Discussions focused on assessing the progress and current status of various developmental programmes being implemented across the state, with particular attention given to timely execution and effective monitoring.
During the review, the Minister examined the implementation of ongoing projects, identified challenges affecting their progress and emphasised the importance of stronger coordination among departmental officials to ensure smooth execution. He stressed that all development initiatives must be carried out efficiently so that their benefits reach weavers, artisans and other stakeholders at the grassroots level.
Bikash Debbarma also underscored the need to strengthen efforts for the growth and promotion of the state's traditional handloom and handicrafts sectors, which provide livelihood opportunities to a large number of people. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to supporting these sectors and ensuring that developmental programmes translate into tangible benefits for local communities.
Officials reviewed strategies to improve implementation mechanisms and discussed measures to further enhance the effectiveness of departmental initiatives aimed at the welfare and economic empowerment of artisans and weavers across Tripura.
