By Zoila Palma: On October 17, the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) met with parents of the Under-15 (U15) Boys National Football Team as final preparations continued for the FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival 2026 in Azerbaijan, scheduled for October 24–30.
Fourteen young footballers have been selected to represent Belize at the international event, with the team scheduled to depart today for the three-day journey to Azerbaijan.
The meeting was led by Head Coach Wayne Casimiro and the team’s technical staff. FFB General Secretary Ian Jones and Executive Member Shane Orio also attended, reaffirming the federation’s commitment to the safety and well-being of all athletes travelling for the competition.
Presentations were made to help parents understand the team’s travel itinerary and preview the facilities and schedules the players will follow during their stay. The selection process began with more than 30 young footballers from across Belize competing for one of the 14 available spots. The FFB acknowledged the dedication of all participants, including those who did not make the final squad.
FFB noted that for some players, the trip will also mark their first opportunity to travel abroad, exposing them to new cultures and traditions while allowing them to connect with other young athletes.
The FFB noted that football helps young people develop discipline, teamwork, resilience, friendships and confidence.
