CHI Farms Limited, an integrated agribusiness unit of Nigeria’s Tropical General Investments (TGI) Group, and global poultry breeder Aviagen Group are marking a 20-year alliance aimed at bolstering livestock yields and domestic food security in Africa’s most populous nation.
The partnership centers on expanding access to Aviagen’s Arbor Acres® breeding stock while delivering technical support to commercial poultry producers operating under local West African climatic conditions.
Over two decades, the venture has scaled beyond genetics distribution to encompass technical training, supply-chain support, and yield-optimization management for local farmers navigating rising input costs and shifting market demand.
”This anniversary is a proud moment for CHI Farms and for everyone who has contributed to our journey,” said Olatunji Olaitan Olaofe, managing director of CHI Farms. “Our focus has always been on delivering value to our customers and responding to the needs of the market.”
Nigeria’s livestock sector faces mounting pressure to expand production capacity, driven by rapid urbanization and macroeconomic tailwinds across Sub-Saharan Africa.
The Arbor Acres breed—known for balancing reproductive efficiency, broiler livability, and feed-conversion ratios—has become a cornerstone of local supply chains seeking higher margins.
”Reaching this milestone is a remarkable achievement and demonstrates CHI Farms’ long-standing commitment to serving the Nigerian poultry industry,” said Florian Blevin, business manager for Sub-Saharan Africa at Aviagen.
CHI Farms, which has operated in Nigeria’s livestock sector since 1986, said it plans to expand its strategic partnerships and technical footprint as the country seeks greater agricultural self-sufficiency.
