At least 10 passengers were injured in a multiple-vehicle crash on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos on Wednesday, while emergency responders prevented a possible train collision at Ilupeju Bypass after a commercial bus broke down on a railway track.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said the bridge accident occurred in the morning when a commercial bus stopped to fix a faulty tyre and was hit by another bus.
A trailer subsequently rammed into the second bus before the driver fled the scene.

LASEMA said emergency responders administered first aid to the injured passengers before evacuating them to hospital for treatment.
The affected section of the bridge was later cleared, allowing traffic to resume.

In a separate incident at Ilupeju Bypass, emergency responders used a light tow truck to remove a broken-down commercial bus from a railway track, averting a possible collision with an approaching train.

The agency said its response team was deployed to manage the situation.
LASEMA advised motorists against carrying out roadside repairs on highways and bridges, urging them to maintain their vehicles regularly to reduce the risk of accidents.
It also encouraged residents in need of emergency assistance to call its toll-free emergency numbers, 767 or 112.
