HONG KONG: In a star-studded crossover that caught pop culture fans entirely off guard, Canadian music icon The Weeknd was recently treated to an exclusive dinner in Hong Kong alongside screen legend Tony Leung and his wife, actress Carina Lau.
The 36-year-old singer landed in the territory a week ahead of his upcoming four-concert stint, quickly making the most of his stay with top-tier hospitality, according to 8Days.
Documenting the memorable evening on Instagram, Lau uploaded snaps of the trio set against the iconic backdrop of Victoria Harbour, captioning her post: "What a perfect weekend with The Weeknd!"
The intimate gathering took place at Cartier's prestigious La Résidence, where guests were treated to a lavish spread featuring abalone pasta, wagyu beef tenderloin with prawn, and exquisite Alba white truffle.
Touched by the experience, the Canadian star penned a heartfelt handwritten message directly on the dinner menu, reading: "Thank you for an incredible night. Your friend, The Weeknd. To Carina & Tony."
The rendezvous sparked further excitement when The Weeknd reshared the photos on his personal Instagram account using Faye Wong's classic hit 'Dream Lover' as background music.
Film buffs immediately recognised the track from Wong Kar-wai's celebrated 1994 masterpiece Chungking Express, which famously starred both Leung and Wong.
Far from a random choice, the tribute highlighted the singer's long-standing affection for Hong Kong cinema and vintage Cantopop, having previously praised Wong's 1996 album Restless on social media.
Online fans were left thoroughly amazed by the unexpected gathering, with several admitting they initially mistook the images for digital fabrications.
"I thought this was AI for a second," one netizen admitted, while others hailed the link-up as a "magical crossover."
Another cheekily added: "What a menu & I'm not talking about the food though it did look really good."
Ultimately, bringing together global pop royalty and Hong Kong cinematic royalty proved to be an absolute visual feast for fans worldwide.
