Valentine Muhereza, popularly known as Kachaina, has added a master’s degree to his growing portfolio, marking another milestone in a career that spans entertainment, media, entrepreneurship and community development.
Born on February 14, 1980, Kachaina has built a name in western Uganda through comedy, music, radio and television. He currently serves as national projects coordinator at UNCLE-Tusiime Development Foundation and is also an entrepreneur, extending his professional experience beyond the entertainment industry.
His academic journey has been marked by interruptions, financial challenges and determination. After beginning his primary education in the late 1980s, he returned to school in 1997 under the Universal Primary Education programme. He later attended Kalamba Hill Secondary School for his O-Level education before taking an extended break from formal studies.
In 2017, Kachaina returned to the classroom at Welden School in Mbarara to complete his A-Level education after approximately 12 years away from school. He subsequently joined Bishop Stuart University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication in 2023.
He later enrolled at Victoria University for a Master of Diplomacy and Global Studies, further expanding his academic background beyond journalism and communication.
The journey to higher education was not without financial challenges. At one point, Kachaina sold chickens to help meet his school expenses, demonstrating the determination that has characterised his pursuit of education.
His professional journey began with performances at social events before he joined BFM in Bushenyi in 2009. He later gained recognition through TV West’s Runyakitara comedy programme Twag Comedy, establishing himself as a familiar personality in western Uganda’s entertainment scene.
Beyond the stage and screen, his role at UNCLE-Tusiime Development Foundation has taken him into national project coordination, while his entrepreneurial interests continue to broaden his professional experience.
With qualifications in journalism and mass communication alongside his master’s degree, Kachaina brings together academic training and practical experience across media, business and community engagement.
His academic achievement offers encouragement to people whose education has been interrupted by financial difficulties or other circumstances, demonstrating that returning to school remains possible even after years away from the classroom.
From selling chickens to support his education to building a career in entertainment, coordinating projects and pursuing entrepreneurship, Kachaina’s latest qualification represents another chapter in a journey shaped by persistence and ambition.
