The Tennessee Titans have yet to win a game in Robert Saleh’s first season as head coach, falling to 0-5 and extending a losing streak that dates back to last season. Now, the team’s top executive has a message for the fans who have suffered through it.
Titans CEO Burke Nihill issued an apology to the fan base on Friday, admitting that the organization has “let our fans down.” At the same time, Nihill made it clear that Saleh and general manager Mike Borgonzi aren’t going anywhere, saying the team has “organizational belief” in both of them.
Titans’ Rough Start
Things are even bleaker in Tennessee, where Saleh’s tenure couldn’t have gotten off to a much worse start. The Titans’ offense is averaging a league-low 246.4 yards and 11.6 points per game, while the defense has forced just two turnovers through five games.
To make matters worse, the struggles go well beyond this season. Tennessee has lost 33 of its past 39 games and has dropped seven straight dating back to Week 17 of last season. Since Borgonzi arrived ahead of the 2025 season, the Titans have won just three games.
But despite the struggles, Saleh has insisted that the team is sticking with its process.
“We’re going through a lot of adversity,” Saleh said via ESPN’s Turron Davenport.. “But if we capture it the right way, we’re going to find a lot of growth, and when I tell you guys that the sun is going to shine on this organization eventually, it’s going to shine.”
‘We’re sorry’
Nihill, who is empowered to speak on behalf of controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk, didn’t hide from the issues when he spoke with ESPN.
“The first thing I would say back to the fans is just that we’re sorry,” Nihill said. “There’s nobody in this building that doesn’t feel … a sense of grief about it, because not only are we fans of the team as well, but we feel the sense of responsibility to deliver. And we’ve let our fans down because football is supposed to be fun.”
“I think it starts on the field and the state of the franchise. We’re 0-5, and that’s not nearly good enough. It hasn’t been for a while,” he added.
Still, Nihill made it clear that the Titans plan to be patient with their current leadership.
“I personally feel a sense of stability,” Nihill said. “I believe that Mike Borgonzi and Robert Saleh are ultimately going to get this team out of the woods and restore it to competitive football. The train is on the tracks. It just hasn’t picked up momentum, but it will.”
“I can confidently say this organization is in a place where there is organizational belief in Mike, in Robert, and they absolutely have all the support they need to get this train moving and moving faster,” Nihill continued.
A New Trend?
The Titans aren’t the only struggling NFL team whose ownership has had to address the fan base this week.
On Tuesday, New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson made it clear that she’s not happy with her team’s 1-4 start, calling the results “not acceptable” and saying that Saints fans “deserve better.”
“Our fans invest their time and their hearts in the Saints,” Benson said. “They are right to expect more than we have delivered.”
Benson also called out head coach Kellen Moore and general manager Mickey Loomis by name, saying that Moore and his coaches are “responsible for preparing our players to perform,” while Loomis and the football staff are “responsible for building a roster capable of sustained success.”
“Words will not restore our fans’ confidence,” Benson said. “Our performance must do that.”
