Formlabs is bringing professional resin 3D printing to home workshops with its $699 Studio 1. Automatic resin dispensing, faster printing, and support for third-party materials make it more accessible. Your wallet might appreciate the upgrade, even if your workbench gets a little messier.
Formlabs has introduced the Form Studio 1, a $699 resin 3D printer aimed at hobbyists, designers, and smaller workshops. Best known for professional machines costing several thousand dollars, the company is now bringing its expertise to a considerably more affordable device.
The Studio 1 uses masked stereolithography (MSLA), which hardens liquid resin using UV light and a display. It features 35-micrometer pixels, a 200 × 125 × 235 mm build volume, automatic resin dispensing, and heated resin handling. Formlabs claims most parts can be printed in under two hours. Unlike the company's traditionally restricted material ecosystem, the Studio 1 also supports third-party resins through its included Open Material Mode.
Indoor use is another selling point. The printer has UL GREENGUARD Gold certification for low chemical emissions when used with Formlabs Alpha Resins and the optional VOC Extractor. However, that doesn't make liquid resin harmless or eliminate the need for proper handling and post-processing.
Six new Alpha Resins start at $29 per liter, while the optional Form Studio Wash+Cure handles cleaning and curing for $199.
The Form Studio 1 is available to order for $699, with shipping scheduled to begin on November 16, 2026.
It certainly makes professional resin printing more affordable. Whether it makes the process less messy is something users will discover once the resin starts flowing.
