20 killed, several injured in bus-lorry collision along Nairobi-Mombasa highway

At least 20 people have been confirmed dead and several others injured following a head-on collision between a bus and a lorry along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.

The accident occurred at around 7am on Sunday at Kanga area, past Mtito Andei.

Makueni County Commissioner Abdullahi Khalif confirmed the death toll, saying several other passengers sustained injuries in the crash.

The bus was reportedly ferrying passengers returning from a burial ceremony when it collided with the lorry.

The injured were rushed to Mtito Andei Sub-County Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.

The bodies of those who died in the accident were also taken to the hospital's mortuary.

The circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be established.
