MOSCOW, October 21. /TASS/. The joint Japanese-US military exercise Keen Sword poses security risks to Russia’s Far Eastern borders, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a news briefing.
"Amid Japan’s current course toward remilitarization, this military activity, like many others, has lost its original, strictly defensive character as previously defined in Japanese legislation," she said.
"We have repeatedly conveyed to the Japanese side our serious concern over this trend, as such actions create additional security risks along Russia’s Far Eastern borders. In light of historical realities, these concerns are well founded," Zakharova concluded.
The joint US-Japanese military exercise Keen Sword is taking place in Japan and surrounding waters from October 19 to 29. It involves approximately 45,000 Japanese military personnel and 12,000 US troops.
