Over 350 athletes are expected to compete across various categories as the 14th edition of the Korean Ambassador’s Cup kicks off today at the Mo Arena in Abuja.
Speaking on the event, Tayo Popoola, President of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF), announced that this year’s tournament will feature a special showcase by the world-renowned Kukkiwon Demonstration Team.
“We are proud to host this event in Nigeria. On the final day of the competition, Sunday, October 26, the Kukkiwon Demonstration Team will perform live,” Popoola said.
“Everything is in place, and we are ready for days filled with entertainment, fun, and learning for both athletes and officials. I want to thank the leadership of the National Sports Commission (NSC) for their total support.”
Ahead of the tournament, the NTF, in partnership with World Taekwondo, successfully classified over 20 Para-Taekwondo athletes at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium on Thursday, October 22.
The initiative aims to pave the way for increased international participation, particularly ahead of the World Para Taekwondo Championships.
Held under the theme “Empowering Abilities Through Taekwondo,” the classification exercise was led by international classifier Claudia Sanches, who praised the talent of Nigerian athletes and expressed optimism about their future prospects on the global stage.
Meanwhile, Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador Yo-an Jeong, is one of the special dignitaries expected to grace the prestigious event at the Mo Arena, Abuja.
