IMPHAL, Oct 18: Victims of a "Stop Payment Marup" have urged authorities concerned to recover monthly payments worth lakhs they had made to organisers.
The Stop Payment Marup was launched under the name of Loyalam Microfinance in 2018, alleges a woman victim, who claimed that some organisers have duped over 200 people of around Rs 1.25 crore.
Speaking to reporters at Manipur Press Club, Heikrujam Malemnganbi, from Waikhong, alleged that the organisers who have duped the people include a person who is identified as the branch manager of Loyalam Sagolmang branch and a person from Ngangkhalawai.
She said that the Marup, which was launched in 2018 with 505 members, was paused after conflict broke out in Manipur in 2023. With the organisers refusing to resume the Marup, as many as 212 members are still waiting for their share of the money to be refunded, she said.
Each member paid Rs 1,000 monthly, she said.
Many of the members have approached the organisers asking them to return their share of money which they paid monthly since 2018. But, so far, their appeals have not been heard, she said, asking authorities concerned to look into the matter and help recover their money.
