Guwahati, Oct 13: The Assam BJP on Tuesday launched its statewide “Jan Jagaran” processions from Nalbari against alleged attempts by the Congress and the INDIA bloc to destabilise the country through agitation, political instigation and unjustified allegations against the judiciary and constitutional institutions.
A party spokesperson here said the procession in Nalbari witnessed the presence of BJP Assam Pradesh president and MP, Dilip Saikia, state organisation secretary, Ravindra Raju, Cabinet minister, Jayanta Malla Baruah, senior leader, Chandra Mohan Patowary and MLA, Narayan Deka, besides party leaders and workers.
The statewide campaign aims to mobilise public opinion against the Congress’s alleged attempts to create political instability by opposing the Election Commission of India’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The party maintains that accurate electoral rolls are essential to safeguarding electoral integrity, strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring that the people’s mandate is respected.
The party spokesperson said the “Jan Jagaran” processions will continue in Guwahati on October 14, followed by programmes in Silchar, Tezpur, Barpeta, Jorhat and Dibrugarh, among other locations, as part of the statewide mobilisation scheduled to continue until October 31.
The ruling party has questioned the Congress’s selective objections to election results, pointing out that the party and its allies have secured electoral victories under the same Election Commission.
“The Congress however is not questioning the ECI on the formation of governments by Congress and its allies in states such as Jharkhand, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, besides its electoral performance in Maharashtra and Haryana,” the party spokesperson said.
The party said that through the ‘Jan Jagaran’ procession, BJP Assam Pradesh seeks to take its message to the people across the state, emphasising the importance of electoral integrity, institutional credibility and democratic accountability.
The campaign also seeks to highlight the importance of peace, unity, progress and continued national development.
The party reiterated its commitment to raising public awareness and countering what it described as attempts to disrupt the country’s progress, growth and development.
