MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines has worked with social media platforms Meta and TikTok to remove about 250,000 online posts advertising fraudulent overseas jobs, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said.
The department disclosed the figure during the 19th ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labor (AFML), held on Oct. 14 and 15 at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay.
During a session on emerging trends and challenges in online recruitment, DMW Undersecretary Darlene Pajarito stressed the need for governments, digital platforms and other stakeholders to work together to protect Filipinos seeking employment abroad.
“We cannot work in silos. That’s why we also forged many memoranda of agreement with concerned agencies, published materials for public awareness and took down fraudulent job posts through our partnership with Meta and TikTok Philippines,” Pajarito said.
Participants called for stronger laws on online recruitment, verification of employers and job advertisements and faster removal of fraudulent posts and accounts.
They also recommended closer coordination among governments, digital platforms, law enforcement agencies and financial service providers to disrupt illegal recruitment networks.
