A man has died in Plymouth after reportedly being found seriously injured in a bin.
Desperate attempts were made to save the man's life but the police have since announced the launch of a murder investigation.
Emergency services rushed to Grand Parade in West Hoe at around 6.40am this morning after receiving calls from the public over concerns for a man's welfare.
The identity of the man has not yet been established and the Plymouth Herald has reported that the man was found in a bin.
Paramedics tended to the man found in a service lane off Grand Parade but he was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Nearby roads have been cordoned off while forensic examinations and searches are underway into the 'suspicious' death.
Devon and Cornwall Police will be carrying out house-to-house inquiries and are expected to have a heavy presence in the area as officers go through CCTV footage.
Members of the public who may have seen something 'suspicious' have been urged to come forward and provide any information to the police.

'We are appealing to anyone who was in the area of Grand Parade and Garden Crescent between 6pm on Tuesday 20 October and 6.40am on Wednesday 21 October and witnessed anything suspicious to come forward.
'We are particularly keen to hear from anyone with CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage from the area during this time.
'There will be an ongoing police presence in the area while enquiries continue and anyone with concerns is encouraged to speak with officers at the scene.
'We will release further information when we are able to do so but in the meantime would ask people not to speculate about what may have happened, especially on social media.'
