The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) says it has reduced the cost of its roadworthy certificate service agreement from $155.4 million to GH¢2 million following a review and renegotiation of the contract.
Chief Executive Officer Julius Neequaye Kotey announced the change at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, October 12, 2026, explaining that the previous agreement committed the Authority to annual payments of $51.8 million between 2023 and 2026.
This, he said, amounted to $155.4 million over three years.
Mr Kotey said the Authority renegotiated the arrangement to secure a new agreement covering 2026 to 2028 at a total cost of GH¢2 million for the entire three-year period.
“Instead of paying $51.8 million annually, summing up to $155.4 million for three years, we are now paying GH¢2 million for the three years,” he said.
He described the renegotiation as a significant reduction in the Authority’s contractual expenditure, estimating that it would translate into savings of about $50 million annually.
“That is the difference between the current government and the past government,” Mr Kotey added.
