Standard Bank Blue Eagles striker Tonic Viyuyi has caught FCB Nyasa Bullets striker Ephraim Kondowe at the top of the FDH Bank Premiership scoring charts, the pair now sharing the lead on 10 goals each.

Kondowe led the league with nine goals at the end of the first round, then took his tally to 10 in the People’s Team’s second-round opener against Eagles, a 2-0 Bullets win. Viyuyi’s brace in his side’s 3-0 victory over Chitipa United on Sunday, however, levelled the scores. Kondowe did not find the net when Bullets beat Mafco FC 3-0 the same afternoon.
Marco Chiwaya of Goshen City Dedza Dynamos is third with six goals. Six players are tied on five: Ekhaya FC’s Blessings Malinda, Silver Strikers’ Festus Duwe, Kamuzu Barracks’ Kelvin Hanganda, Mighty Wanderers’ Lameck Mithi, Moyale Barracks’ Lucky Mkandawire and Luanar Mitundu’s Raheem Mtondera.
Wanderers have the most goals as a team, with 29, followed by Eagles on 27. Bullets are third on 25.
Football analyst Charles Nyirenda says it is too early to call the race, but Kondowe and Viyuyi are the favourites. “The gap between them and the one who comes third is four goals and it shows that if they can maintain consistency, the race will be between them,” he said.
