Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha has urged candidates who qualified in the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) Paper-I to end their sit-in demonstration outside Siksha Bhavan, saying the government is aware of their demand for immediate recruitment and will take necessary steps.
Responding to the continuing protest, Saha said the candidates should have faith in the government and refrain from demonstrations, which he said would cause inconvenience to the public as well as the protesters themselves.
“I would urge them to have faith. I do not think there is any need to continue the agitation in this manner. The government is aware of the matter, and we will certainly do what is necessary,” he said.
The chief minister appealed to the protesters to withdraw their agitation, adding that continuing the demonstration would not serve any purpose.
He said the government was sensitive to the concerns of people and would take action whenever required.
CM’s remarks came amid a sit-in by TET Paper-I qualifiers outside Siksha Bhavan, demanding immediate recruitment.
The protestors gathered on Thursday amidst Durga Puja festivities and they had been continuing their sit-in protests.
According to official sources, the recruitment for TET paper-I qualifiers got stalled due to legal complications. The matter is now sub-judice in the High Court.
Apart from that, several other cases are pending at the High Court of Tripura as well pertaining to correctness of questions.
Recently, the High Court had directed the TRBT–the recruiting body of Tripura teachers–to increase marks of several aspirants who had raised doubts over the correctness of an answer given in the final answer key published by TRBT.
The High Court’s intervention, reportedly, further complicated the matter, source added.
If the marks are increased as per the decision of the High Court, entire merit list has to be revised as the number of students who attempted the question is around 3,000.
Sources in the department informed this newspaper that efforts were underway to resolve the matter as soon as possible and offers would be distributed.
Recently, the government has distributed offers of TET paper-II and STGT aspirants who had been recruited as graduate teachers for teaching students in different classes of secondary schools. TET paper-I is on the other hand and exam to recruit Under Graduate Teachers for elementary schools.
