The new platform lets institutional clients trade stocks, metals and currencies as perpetual swaps across roughly 100 markets at any hour.
Ripple Prime has opened a continuous trading venue for institutional investors, offering swaps on real-world assets around the clock. The platform covers stocks, metals and currencies, structured as perpetual swaps across roughly 100 markets, according to reports from Cryptopolitan, TronWeekly and Unchained.
Virtu Financial, a major electronic market maker, is already active on the new platform. Its participation signals early institutional interest in the service. Virtu's presence also suggests the infrastructure has cleared at least initial due diligence from a firm that trades across traditional and digital asset markets.
The move extends Ripple's broader strategy of building financial infrastructure that connects traditional markets with blockchain-based settlement. Ripple has spent recent years expanding beyond cross-border payments into custody, stablecoins and now institutional trading venues. Ripple Prime appears to be the latest piece of that expansion.
Real-world asset tokenization has become a focal point for both crypto firms and traditional finance institutions. Bringing assets like equities, metals and currency pairs onto always-available trading rails addresses a long-standing limitation of legacy markets. Traditional exchanges operate on fixed hours, while crypto markets trade continuously.
Offering perpetual swaps on these assets gives institutions a way to manage exposure outside standard market hours. This can matter during periods of volatility, when traditional venues are closed but news or price-moving events continue. A 24/7 structure lets participants react to developments without waiting for markets to reopen.
The reported scope of roughly 100 markets indicates a sizable initial offering rather than a narrow pilot. Covering stocks, metals and currencies in one venue also points toward consolidation of asset classes that institutions previously had to access through separate platforms or brokers.
Ripple has not been detailed publicly, based on available reporting, on which specific stocks or metals are included, or how settlement and custody are structured for the swaps. Further details may emerge as institutional adoption grows and Ripple provides additional disclosures about the platform's mechanics.
Market Impact
The launch could accelerate institutional comfort with blockchain-based trading infrastructure for traditional assets. Virtu's participation may encourage other market makers and institutional desks to evaluate similar platforms, particularly if execution and settlement prove reliable outside standard market hours.
For Ripple, the expansion reinforces its positioning as an infrastructure provider rather than solely a payments company. Success here could strengthen Ripple's case to institutional clients weighing blockchain rails against legacy trading systems, especially as real-world asset tokenization continues drawing attention from both crypto-native firms and established finance players.
Ripple Prime's 24/7 swap platform marks another step in blending traditional asset trading with blockchain-based infrastructure. Virtu's early involvement offers a signal of institutional interest, though broader adoption will depend on further disclosures and market performance.
