Adrien Rabiot and Mario Gila were ‘angry’ after Milan’s chaotic 3-2 win over Atalanta, as they almost fumbled a 3-0 advantage. ‘I’m not so sure we deserve it.’
It was a strange game at San Siro this evening, because the Rossoneri surged into a 3-0 lead and seemed perhaps too comfortable with the Goncalo Ramos penalty, Rabiot and Gila on target.
They even saw Ramos have another penalty parried by Marco Carnesecchi, but Atalanta staged a late comeback with Gianluca Gaetano and Nikola Krstovic goals, only a desperate Mike Maignan save preventing 3-3.
Rabiot and Gila angry at Milan collapse
“We did very well in the first half, then strangely we lost control of the game,” Rabiot told Sky Sport Italia.
“It is a problem, because we had done so well, but if we don’t keep that up, then it’s not worth anything.
“Fortunately, we were able to get the victory, but I’m not so sure we deserve it. I feel quite angry, we cannot suddenly stop after playing that well.”
This was just days after Milan crushed RB Salzburg 4-0 away from home in the Europa League, with an Alphadjo Cisse hat-trick, but the teenager didn’t get a look-in this evening.
Defender Gila did get his first Serie A goal since 2024, nodding in a Rabiot flick at the back post from a corner.
“We had dominated for 65 minutes, but then we tried to move the ball around too hastily, we lacked patience and lost control of the match,” added Gila.
“It’s a pity, because the first half was perhaps our best performance of the season.”
At least Milan remain unbeaten in Serie A so far this season, even if they have shown serious problems in defence.
“You need to win these games, even when you’re not in great shape and don’t do that well. We’ve got to learn from this experience.”
