The Belgrade Bar Association (AKB) called for the publication of the names of 49 people former Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic claimed to have pardoned before he resigned.
The AKB called acting President, Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic and caretaker Justice Minister Nenad Vujic to disclose who Vucic pardoned just before resigning and which crimes they were charged with. It also asked whether the justice minister had initiated pardons on his own initiative.
The AKB said pardons and exemptions from criminal prosecution were exceptional powers exercised in the public interest, arguing that the public had the right to know who had been relieved of criminal responsibility and on what grounds. Sources at the Higher Court told N1 it had received no notification that Justice Minister Nikola Selakovic or other defendants in the General Staff case had been pardoned. Prosecutors received no notification concerning former ministers charged in the railway station canopy collapse case.
