Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will receive support in the territory during the 2027 presidential election.
Wike gave the assurance on Wednesday in Abuja while meeting with political stakeholders from the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC.
Wike, who coordinates the APC Presidential Campaign Council in the FCT and Rivers State, said political differences should not prevent leaders from cooperating for the development of the capital.
He described the gathering as one of his happiest days.
He noted that political rivals were now coming together to pursue common interests.
“President Tinubu’s administration has made significant progress in the FCT, including moving forward with the Apo-Karshi Road project after 16 years of delay. The administration has also promoted inclusiveness by creating women and youth secretariats and elevating career civil servants to senior positions,” Wike said.
Defending the removal of the fuel subsidy, the minister said previous administrations had avoided the decision despite describing the policy as problematic.
“Every president said it was a scam, but nobody had the courage to say it would go. That is the pain we will endure till we get it right,” he said.
He added that increased allocations to state and local governments had created more room for infrastructure development without excessive reliance on commercial bank loans.
Wike said the campaign council would soon be inaugurated and that preparations for the election were underway.
He urged voters to turn out with their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, on election day and vote for Tinubu and the party’s candidates.
