In a major crackdown on drug trafficking during the Durga Puja festivities, police seized a large consignment of narcotics worth approximately Rs 5.5 crore from Bengali Basti in Basistha.
The operation was carried out by Basistha Police, led by Officer-in-Charge Kapil Pathak, following which an alleged drug peddler, identified as Pranab Das, was arrested in connection with the seizure.
According to reports, the police recovered a substantial quantity of heroin concealed in 42 soap boxes. The consignment was allegedly being transported for illegal distribution. In addition to the heroin, police also seized three packets containing morphine, a controlled narcotic substance.
The estimated value of the seized drugs in the illegal market is around Rs 5.5 crore, making it a significant recovery amid heightened security and surveillance during the festive season.
The arrest of Pranab Das is expected to form part of the ongoing investigation into the consignment. Police are likely to investigate the source of the seized narcotics, the intended recipients and whether the arrested individual was linked to a wider drug trafficking network.
Further details regarding the investigation, the origin of the consignment and possible links to other individuals involved in the alleged trafficking operation are awaited.
