Kelly Clarkson is taking her Brooklyn shopping controversy all the way to the bank.
The singer got into a back and forth over the weekend with Brooklyn Heights design shop, Art of Play, after accusing them of refusing to sell her a musical bird named Molly. Clarkson compared her experience to one Julia Roberts’ sex worker character encounters in Pretty Woman, saying the staff was dismissive when she was interested in making a big purchase.
Art of Play claimed that Clarkson had wanted to purchase a piece that wasn’t for sale. Online photos, however, later confirmed the sculpture had a price tag of $15,000. “You’re not only rude, you’re also a liar,” Clarkson replied in response.
What started as a “he said, she said” has now become a “he said, she said, he said,” with Art of Play co-owner Adam Rubin continuing to speak out against Clarkson online. In an interview with Rolling Stone Wednesday, Rubin says Clarkson’s posts online have led to a swarm of negative attention on his small business. “Kelly Clarkson knew that she was lighting that fuse when she decided to use her fame and wealth on a public platform to try to destroy our business,” he told us. “She chose to do it anyway.”
Clarkson hasn’t responded to Rubin’s latest interviews, and she may not need to. After all, the “I Don’t Think About You” singer has her own home decor line that she can shop from, with a couple of bird-themed pieces at a much more affordable price point.
The items are part of the singer’s Kelly Clarkson collection of furniture and home goods at Wayfair, and have just dropped as part of her holiday capsule.

Wayfair also sells this singing bird set on its website. This pair of colorful Budgerigars (a.k.a. a parakeet or budgie) “sings” when it detects motion. The highly-detailed birds make a realistic chirping sound just like they do in nature, offering a cool conversation starter for your space. The polyresin birds are weather-resistant, too, so you can have them displayed outdoors.
