ADEN – United Nations humanitarian agencies have warned that ongoing hostilities and large-scale displacement are worsening Yemen’s humanitarian crisis, particularly in the conflict-affected governorate of Taiz.
According to reports cited by Xinhua News Agency, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), quoting data from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), said that approximately 216,000 people have been displaced across Yemen since the beginning of August, with more than 172,000 of them originating from Taiz Governorate alone.
The UN agencies said the continued violence, coupled with repeated waves of displacement, is placing additional pressure on already vulnerable communities and stretching humanitarian resources.
OCHA noted that, as of Monday, the United Nations and its humanitarian partners had reached nearly 143,000 people with emergency assistance. The aid included food supplies, hygiene kits, and cash assistance aimed at helping families meet their most urgent needs.
However, the agency stressed that growing humanitarian needs, access constraints, and limited funding continue to hamper relief operations and restrict the ability of aid organizations to respond effectively to the crisis.
Humanitarian organizations have repeatedly called for greater access to affected populations and increased international support to address the escalating needs of displaced families, many of whom have been forced to flee multiple times amid ongoing fighting.
