Kathmandu, October 14
The Immigration Office at Tribhuvan International Airport has said it has no details of Giri Bahadur Sunar, the proposed Nepali ambassador to Saudi Arabia, having been deported from Germany. The office’s reply is that the details could not be made available because the incident was 14 years old.
In the course of verifying the facts of a complaint filed against Sunar with the Parliamentary Hearing Committee, the committee had asked the Immigration Office for details on whether he had been deported from Germany.
The committee’s meeting on October 12 decided to verify the allegations against Sunar after holding discussions with the complainant. Following the discussions, details were sought from the Immigration Office to verify the complainant’s claim that Sunar had been deported from Germany.
In its reply to the Hearing Committee, the Immigration Office said that because the incident was 14 years old, it does not have details on whether Sunar was deported.
Of the two complaints filed against Sunar, the other alleges that he committed violence against a woman and threatened her. The committee has already received the response it sought from the District Police Office, Lalitpur. Lalitpur police have submitted details of a settlement between Sunar and the woman in February 2019.
As part of the parliamentary hearings of the proposed ambassadors, the process of seeking details from the agencies concerned to investigate complaints filed with the committee and of verifying the allegations is moving forward.
