INCHEON — A man stabbed eight shoppers at a large commercial complex housing a Homeplus store in Incheon on the 13th, leaving one person in cardiac arrest and seven others hospitalized.
Incheon Namdong Police Station said it had arrested and was questioning a man believed to be in his 60s, identified only by his surname A, as the suspect in the stabbing.
The man is accused of wielding a knife at the Homeplus-anchored commercial complex in Guwol-dong, Namdong District, Incheon, at about 1:40 p.m. that day, injuring eight shoppers.
One of the eight was in cardiac arrest, while the other seven were taken to hospitals for treatment, according to authorities.
The man moved up the escalators from the second basement level, where the Homeplus store is located, to the second floor, where other shops are housed, attacking people along the way before being subdued by shoppers, police said.
Witnesses said he carried out the attack with knives bound to both hands.
Fire authorities, responding to reports of the incident, set up an emergency medical station on the first floor out of concern over mass casualties.
Police plan to question the man to determine the circumstances of the attack.
