Fifty newly graduated rangers at Badingilo National Park in South Sudan have completed specialised training in human rights, lawful arrest procedures and the prevention of sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment.
According to African Parks, the training was conducted as part of the Basic Field Ranger Course to strengthen the professionalism and accountability of rangers responsible for protecting the country’s wildlife and natural heritage.
The course covered vehicle search procedures, lawful arrests and safeguarding standards, with an emphasis on respecting human rights and building trust between conservation officers and local communities.
African Parks says integrating human rights principles into ranger training is essential to ensuring that conservation efforts protect both people and wildlife.
The organisation also acknowledged the support of its partners in preparing the new rangers for their responsibilities.
Badingilo National Park is one of South Sudan’s important conservation areas, known for its wildlife and the seasonal migration of antelopes.
The training comes as conservation efforts continue to emphasise the importance of protecting wildlife while maintaining positive relations with communities living around protected areas.
